Holiday time: always nice to do something different than you're used to.
An afternoon of shopping in a city other than your own hometown, is something like that.
So I ended up with my love in Dordrecht.
A quick study on the internet had taught me that I have to take a peek in the Vriesstraat. On the website I had seen nice stores and wrote the names in my Moleskine.
Armed with the names and house numbers I walk in the Vriesstraat.
As a visual person, I realize that I'm mostly attracted by what I see when I walk somewhere.
I forget to look at the names on the paper and let myself be guided by what I see.
My attention is drawn by a nice little building.
At the door, with a handwritten font, the words ‘Pop-up Shop'.
I immediately think about the today's trends.
Pop-up Stores in this time of crisis, are a huge trend.
Fonts are apparently a common denominator at Trendbubbles, because once again they are for me an eye-catcher (read the blog Desiree wrote about Marie-Stella Maris). Handwritten fonts (often combined with a black chalkboard) are currently a huge trend.
Indie-ish is the name of the shop.
A quick glance through the open door confirms that I have to go there to check this out.
The interior with a light blue wall and white and pastel-colored products, gives a kindly impression.
The lady behind the counter confirms my impression by welcoming me.
I introduce myself and ask her about the story behind the Pop-Up Shop.
Marieke Ooms thinks trendy
Marieke Ooms is talking to me with passion.
As a creative businesswoman (she graduated as a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Rotterdam) she designs and sells home made products through her websites: www.indie-ish.nl and www.handmadebymo.nl.
As the retail space below her property is being empty for a while, she decided to see if she could rent this retail space on temporary basis in November 2013.
She succeeds in renting the space and provides the ability to show products to a larger audience not only online but also offline. She searches everywhere to find matching items from young designers around the world.
The time of the mass production is over and Marieke Ooms has seen this very well.
With her products, that you will hardly find anywhere else, she jumps into this trend.
Furnishing your home with unique products that suit you so that you feel comfortable in your cocoon, that is the trend of today.
What can you buy at Indie-ish?
Indie-ish.nl sells and manufactures products for you, your family and your home.
Mariekes love for handmade designs, materials and paper products reflecs in the store.
I see stationery, pillows, fashion accessories, lamps, porcelain studs …..
It's just too much and too nice to mention all.
It makes me at least very greedy.
With her do-it-yourself kits to make your own home accessories, Marieke jumps into the do-it-yourself trend of the moment.
Where does the name Indie-ish come from?
When asked, Marieke tells me that the name Indie comes from the American Independent Designers.
The word ‘-ish' is the style: Indie-ish.
Marieke buys directly from the indie designers.
Inspiration from nature
All articles Marieke is selling are color inspired by nature and they are made from natural materials.
In the webshop handmadeByMo.nl only materials and DIY materials are sold that are created and designed by Marieke herself.
The articles in www.indie-ish.nl are made and designed by different designers.
Trendiest article from Indie-ish
Marieke has a immediatly an answer to my quotestion what her best selling ans most fashionabel item is. quickly she chooses even 3 items. A paper rhino, a property chain and one of her limited edition children's leggings, you can make do with a choice of 5 different unique prints on demand. Because it's all so much fun, I made a picture with Marieke and her favourite goodies.
Were and when?
So if you ever are in Dordrecht and the pop-up shop is still there, then go inside the Vriesstraat 122.
They are only opened on Friday and Saturday, but I bet that you will not leave without buying something!
And if you can not wait, go visit the two websites mentioned above.
